“The greatest thing about Santa Cruz Montessori, for me, is all the great friends I made while I was there. The environment allows you to develop great relationships with people.”—SCM Alum
Parents are an integral part of our school community. They are the first and primary teachers of their children. When parents and school work in partnership, benefits for the child are multiplied.
Parents share in the life of the students by attending parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and program meetings. Classroom observations and discussions with teachers further involve parents in their children’s experience at school. Santa Cruz Montessori has a parent participation program where parents volunteer 20 hours per year (10 hours per year for single parents). Parents volunteer in many ways, including:
- Contributing to school workdays
- Chaperoning a class outing
- Serving on our Board of Directors
- Volunteering at social functions
- Helping in the classroom
- Participating in class plays
Santa Cruz Montessori families contribute an average of 10,000 hours of work per year to the school and contribute thousands of dollars of in-kind service to the school, from mechanical engineering and website design to landscaping.
