“I love that my children have learned how to self-initiate. I love that they are learning how to respect themselves, and thus respect others. I love that Montessori understood that learning is a true process, based on solid principles of child (physical and mental) development.”—SCM Parent
The mission of Santa Cruz Montessori School is to guide and nurture the natural development of the whole student. In a Montessori learning community, students develop a respect for nature and the global family and will grow with a healthy spirit, a clear intellect, and a strong character. This helps our graduates realize their potential and understand their unique contributions as they work for a noble and peaceful world.
Respect – Respect for ourselves, each other, and our environment—be that our school, our community, or our world—is at the foundation of Santa Cruz Montessori philosophy and drives our efforts at peace through education.
Teamwork – We celebrate collaboration among students, staff, Board members, volunteers, and parents. Constructive collaboration among all SCM communities is necessary to achieve our mission-driven goals.
Diversity – SCM staff and parents promote and environment of acceptance for diverse people, ideas, cultures, and economics.
Compassion – Caring and trust for one another creates an atmosphere where students can exercise their curiosity and creativity without judgment.
Responsibility – All members of the SCM community play a role in contributing to the creation of a quality Montessori environment for all.
Santa Cruz Montessori is founded on the methods and philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, who recognized the potential of each child to become a force for good in creating a better world for all.
